No to AV - The Mask Slips
Finally, after much stalling, hedging and attempting to bury the evidence, the NO camp’s dirty little secret is out in the open. The campaign in defence in the political status quo is funded by the supporters of the Conservative Party, investment bankers, hedge-fund managers, corporate tax avoiders, venture capitalists: exactly the kind of organisations who fear that a more equal, more democratic Britain would hit them in their bulging wallets.
Here’s just a few of the extensive list of people who have previously donated to the Conservative party and are now filling the coffers of the NO campaign:
Peter Cruddas – Currency trader and spreadbetting tycoon, lives in Monaco to avoid paying tax
Jonathan Wood – Runs Monaco-based hedge fund
Michael Farmer – Runs Hedge Fund, and donated over £3m to the Tory party
David Mayhew – Chairman of JP Morgan Bank
Stanley Fink – Runs Hedge-fund and co-ordinated a letter calling for tax cuts
For more information on their donors see here.
It is no wonder that the No campaign have been so shy of revealing their donors. They are bankrolled by individuals with a very considerable stake in preserving the status quo, and a track record of fighting to promote Tory interests.
By contrast, Labour Yes supports the move to fairer votes as part of our wider call for a fairer society, and enjoys support at every level of the party.
