Richard Burden MP Loves Yes to Fairer Votes!

Labour MP for Birmingham Northfield Richard Burden is loving AV on Valentines Day! He’ll be spending an hour with campaigners from 1pm at the West Midlands office of Yes to Fairer votes on Monday 14 February.

Mr Burden, a strong supporter of electoral reform, will be telephoning canvassing alongside volunteers at the Birmingham Office on 4 Aspect Court, Temple Row, Birmingham.

Royal Assent for the referendum is expected next week paving the way for the referendum to be held on 5 May . If the referendum vote is successful it will change the current voting system from First Past the Post for election to the House of Commons to the Alternative Vote (AV) method for future General Elections.

Richard will also be meeting members of the campaign on Monday and discussing why he believes AV is the change Birmingham and the country needs.

Mr Burden’s visit comes soon after a high profile local debate on the issue, with local MP Jack Dromey, deputy leader of Birmingham council Paul Tilsley and Chairman of Ladywood Conservatives Dominic Fisher leading a lively event at the Birmingham and Midland Institute and is a major step in the local campaign as more people become involved in the upcoming referendum.
The campaign for a fairer democracy continues to grow.

Campaigners for Yes to Fairer Votes will be busy supporting Richard Burden’s efforts by building up momentum over the next few weeks. There is a city centre leafletting blitz organised for 26th February and the Phonebank based in Birmingham is now open 6 days a week for volunteers to come and make a big difference to the campaign. With the referendum drawing nearer, Birmingham is at the forefront of the campaign.
