YouGov poll boost for Yes campaign
Today’s YouGov poll for the IPPR think-tank shows a striking lead for the Yes campaign once people have experienced how the Alternative Vote works in practice : 58% for and 42% against (excluding “don’t knows” and “not voting”). The poll was based on a 2,000 vote sample which gives added credence to its findings.
As IPPR Director Nick Pierce says:
“This poll appears to show that when people engage with AV and are given a chance to try out the system of voting preferences, their support for change grows. It also shows that people can readily understand how AV works and don’t find it too complex.”
The IPPR also published an aggregate of the 12 major polls held since the new year, which found that 54% are in favour of a Yes vote versus 46% supporting No (again, “don’t knows” excluded).
