Tories Come Out in Force for a No Vote
Today Conservative Home exclusively revealed that seven Conservative MPs and two unsuccessful candidates from the 2010 General Election have joined the NOtoAV campaign as official spokes people. As written on ConHome:
They can be expected to play a leading role during the forthconing referendum in highlighting the message of why people should vote against changing our electoral system both in the media and in debates taking place up and down the country.
In fact, George Eustice one of the names listed as a spokesman for the NOtoAV campaign, conceded on Newsnight that AV would cost the Tories seats.
This highlights that the NOtoAV campaign is a Tory led campaign and how thoroughly invested the Tories are in this campaign, a desperate attempt to prevent the introduction of the Alternative Vote. As recently reported on ConservativeHome this is a make or break moment for Cameron and his leadership of the Conservative party. According to some Cameron risks becoming “the Conservative Party’s Lost Leader if Britain votes Yes to AV.”
On the other hand the Labour Yes and the wider Yes to Fairer Votes campaigns are fronted by a range of politicians, representatives from third sector organisations, volunteers and local campaigners all working for a Yes vote in the May referendum.
A Yes vote in May will give the voter back their voice offering a rare opportunity to change from the status quo to enable fairer votes for all.
